@The whaling season for small-type coastal whalers is seven months long, from May through November. In May and June, whaling for@pilot whales and Risso's dolphins takes place out of Taiji and for Baird's beaked whales in the Sea of Japan off Hakodate. In July and August, the vessels operate from Wada and Ayukawa to take Baird's beaked whales. In September, they take Baird's beaked whales from Abashiri and, as well, southern-form pilot whales and Risso's dolphins from Taiji. In October and November, the vessels go from Ayukawa for northern-form pilot whales.
